ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
For the 2007 Young Investigator Symposium
The organizing committee of the Workshop on Steroid Hormones and Brain Function and the Conference on Sex and Gene Expression are soliciting nominations for the Young Investigator Awards for the 2007 YOUNG INVESTIGATOR SYMPOSIUM. The goal of the workshop is to provide unique opportunity for scientists using a wide array of strategies and technologies, from molecular to behavioral, to discuss their research related to the actions of steroid hormones and biological sex influences on the expression of genetic information from embryonic development through adulthood. The nominee can be a senior graduate student or a post-doctoral fellow and must have played a primary role in conducting his/her research in any of the broadly classified areas of neuroendocrinology, hormone action, behavior and comparative neuroendocrinology. Young investigators will be selected on the basis of their research, past accomplishments and future potential. It is expected that awardees will showcase their research in a 30 minute presentation at the YOUNG INVESTIGATOR SYMPOSIUM supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Expenses up to $1200 for travel and lodging (shared with other YI awardees) for the 2006 workshop will be covered and their registration waived. The awardees are expected to stay for the entire duration of the meeting, without exception.
Interested individuals should send a current C.V., abstract of the research to be presented, and a one page statement regarding research history and future goals, along with a sponsor’s letter to Paul G Mermelstein at : pmerm@umn.edu for consideration. Letters of support should be emailed directly to the email address given above. All other information of the nominee should be sent as a single document, preferably as a PDF, but a microsoft word document is acceptable.
Nominations should be received on or before February 1, 2007. The awardees will be selected by the end of February and all applicants will be notified no later than February 28, 2007.
Thank you.
